Type Anatomy & Classification Infographic

This assignment highlighted type classification and anatomy by creating infographics of type. Letterforms were stacked in various hues and shades. Then those stacked letterforms were labeled and diagramed to include the properties of each typeface.
Design 1: For this design I wanted to have a large and bold main letter which ended up being the Z. Then for the other letters I wanted 2 to be san serif (the Z and k) so that the other (the s) could stand out a little in comparison since it was a more display typeface. The Z is the typeface Frutiger. This typeface is a humanist san-serif. This typeface was created by Adrian Frutiger in 1976. This font was created specifically for airport signage because it is very easy to recognize from a long distance. The k is the typeface Avant Garde Gothic. This is a geometric san-serif. It was created by Herb Lubalin and Tom Carnase in 1970. This font was made for a new magazine. And was constructed from circles and straight lines. The s is the font Fette Fraktur. It is a blackletter font. Johann Christian Bauer in the 1800s. This font was developed for the use of advertising.  Picking the main bold letter I was between the Z and K. I liked the straight lines of the 2 compared to the curves of the s. Once I figured out that I liked the Z as the base the best I figured out the placement of the other letters. I figured out I like the Z and the k having the same base line. From there I messed with which sides the s and k went on and their sizes. For the final design I ended with the k on the lower right and the s in the upper left corner. Next for the color I messed with a few options. I decided I liked the color combo that was bright and colorful. I decided to make the 2 san serif letters both a shade of blue but different shades. Then made the s a bright orange so it stands out. And that created the final design.

Design 2: The A is the typeface Caslon. It is an Old Style serif font. It was made by William Caslon in the 1700s. It is one of the first typefaces of English origin. The Q is the font Avant Garde Gothic. This is a geometric san-serif. It was created by Herb Lubalin and Tom Carnase in the 1970s. This font was made for a magazine. The R is the typeface Futura. It is a geometric san-serif. It was made by Paul Renner in 1927. It was designed to contribute to the new Frankfurt-project. I wanted to really use the open middle of the Q so I arranged it where the apex of the A is inside of the counter of the Q. Once I finalized the composition and arrangement of the letters I worked on the color. At first I had the colors very desaturated but I thought it looked better with a hint more saturation.

Design 3: This design was created after the critique. I thought I made a bunch of iterations using the letters GEB so might as well make a final one of it. This one was more for fun.
